Rex Ryan: ‘My move’ to fire Bills OC Greg Roman

He said that he met with team owners and told them of his plans, and that the entire thing was his baby.

“It’s something we have to address and get better at, it’s that simple”, Roman said Tuesday. Ryan’s idea of complementary football is to play strong, suffocating defense while his offense grounds and pounds you to death. So far, all they’ve done is prove the doubters right. “Now Ryan has had two different offensive coordinators in two seasons as the Bills” head coach. He’s brought in players that fit his scheme – and ones that he believed could help silence all the critics.

Perhaps a tad concerning, Ryan is slowly sending away any discerning opinion within his coaching staff. After Thursday’s game Rex knew the front office and the fan base would be looking for answers and solutions, unfortunately the answer Rex gave the fans is a sour one that does nothing to fix what is broken. “We have to correct it and move on, and he’ll be better and we’ll move on from there”.

Coaching firings very rarely happen during the season.

At first glance, some will look at the firing as a just one, due to the offense only scoring seven points against Baltimore, and only generating two meaningful touchdowns against the Jets – both of which came on large chunk plays that went 84 and 71 yards respectively.

Buffalo is 0-2 for the first time since 2010. Roman was relieved of his duties by head coach Rex Ryan just 18 games into his tenure with Buffalo. Either way, Ryan couldn’t exactly fire the guy who runs the defense that hemorrhaged 493 yards and 28 first downs to Ryan Fitzpatrick and company in Buffalo, since that’d mean quitting his job.

This should be a wake-up call to all the players.

“I was afraid to pressure because we weren’t holding up in man-coverage”. Lynn also serves as an assistant head coach and has spent the past eight years working under Ryan. That’s not the Rex Ryan that took the Jets on by storm.

Ryan is under pressure himself so you can’t blame him for doing it his way. The team needs to think about his career, not just this season. Inconsistency has been the new norm. “He’s got a tremendous work ethic, he’s got a ton of knowledge of this offense and what we’re trying to do, and it all falls back to believing”. He’s been a coach in this league for a long time.
