Rez Area X revealed in new trailer for PS4 & PS VR

We still love every bit of it, too. Above, developer Enhance Games debuts a new section of the upcoming, VR-compatible PlayStation 4 title, which should get Rez superfans amped up.

Mizuguchi continues: “But other than that basic foundation, the team and I made a decision to throw away the rest of the formula and start fresh, both in terms of aesthetics and gameplay, building Area X through experimentation and iteration – try something, keep what worked, throw out what didn’t, try again – much in the same way United Game Artists and I created the original Rez so many years ago”. I thought Enhance Games was going to keep it under wraps until October 13.

“Area X is an experiment”, he adds. The preview here retains the neon wireframe look of the original levels, but it brings the concept into the modern age with smoother imagery and some great-looking particle effects. So if you’re wondering what is Area X, they even have a hard time describing it. By moving your head and looking in the direction you want to go, Area X lets you free fly anywhere you want in any part of a level.

And then there’s that new song. Players who wear Sony’s PlayStation VR helmet during gameplay will be able to observe their surroundings from any angle, bringing new degrees of depth to an already immersive shooter experience.
