RG3 to injured reserve with shoulder injury

While favoring his left arm, Griffin only handed the ball off. You have to go, and whoever is playing quarterback for us, you have to get in sync with him real quickly. The Browns said they plan to re-evaluate Griffin’s shoulder in three to four weeks. The earliest he could return would be November 10 at Baltimore.

Jackson said the team is hopeful surgery will not be needed at all.

“Robert will do everything in his power to rehab and get healthy but Josh McCown is on this roster for a reason and we have great confidence in him”, Jackson said.

Sep 11, 2016; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III (10) gathers himself on the ground after injuring his shoulder against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Griffin scrambled from his end zone and took an angle toward the sidelines. And, the Browns lost 10-29. While with the Washington Redskins, Griffin suffered a number of injuries including a torn ACL and a broken ankle.

Shortly after the Browns announced the move, Jackson told reporters that it isn’t fair to Griffin to criticize him for the injury because he wasn’t trying to do it.

“Just an unfortunate play”, Griffin said.

Josh McCown will start Sunday’s home opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

“It’s a different ballgame when you actually get live reps”, he said, “but I think the more you’re prepared, the more chance you’re going to have to be successful”. “I don’t think he saw the guy at all until the very last second”. McCown could help manage some of the young players on the offense a little better than Griffin and run some plays and routes that they would normally not with Griffin as the starter.

It’s not particularly easy to feel bad for Robert Griffin III; by all accounts, we should’ve already, but he’s got an impressive ability to act and speak in a way that makes it hard. Pegged with many questions about Griffin’s future not just in 2016 but also the years to come, Jackson repeatedly brought the focus back to the immediate present. Rookie third-round draft pick Cody Kessler would be the backup.

Maybe they should have traded for Colin Kaepernick. He did, however, connect with Terrelle Pryor on a 44-yard pass that set up a 2-yard score for Isaiah Crowell, Cleveland’s only touchdown of the day. Last season, it was McCown that led Cleveland to a 33-30 overtime victory in Baltimore.

No Browns quarterback since Tim Couch in 2002 has started all 16 games. How do we make him successful?

As of Monday, it doesn’t look particularly promising for either the franchise that continues to be a graveyard of National Football League quarterbacking careers or the player who went there to attempt to recapture his rookie-year magic in Washington.
