Irving Fenner, 23, of Grover, North Carolina, was arrested early Wednesday morning in Coventry after a nationwide manhunt.
State Police Col. Steven O’Donnell said Fenner had lived in Rhode Island in the past.
Officials say 23-year-old Irving Fenner was arrested around 2:30 a.m.by Rhode Island State Police. The officer died Monday. “At this time the Department asks for everyone to keep Officer Brackeen’s family and the entire department in their thoughts and prayers”. Brackeen was named Officer of the Year in 2012.
Hours before the news out of Rhode Island and New York, Morris and another woman were arrested in connection to 38-year-old Brackeen’s death and aiding Fenner. His half-sister was reportedly taken into custody, investigators said.
According to a news release from the Shelby Police Department, Jolisa Peeler, of Rhode Island, was arrested locally on Tuesday and charged with accessory after the fact of first-degree murder, a felony.
North Carolina put out the warrant for her arrest, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation contacted Nassau police, which made the arrest, the source said.
Fenner will be arraigned on a fugitive from justice charge in the hospital when he is well enough, Philbin said, although the timing is uncertain.
Corry Peeler, 39, Fenner’s uncle, and Corry Peeler’s girlfriend, Hope Wyman, 39, were arrested for harboring a fugitive in their apartment, State Police said.
Also arrested were Casey Fenner, of NY, and Deitra Morris, of Shelby, each on a felony charge of accessory after the fact of murder.
“They surrounded the house and they talked him out, and he surrendered”.

Officers in that state transported Fenner to an area hospital because the suspect was suffering from a gunshot wound. His half sister, along with a woman in NY, were both arrested and also charged with aiding Fenner. Investigators said that the injury did not come from his capture in Rhode Island, but believe Fenner was shot in his earlier struggle with Brackeen. “He made the decision to protect the public against people like the man who killed him to keep you and other innocents safe”. Ashley Hamrick was apprehended in Shelby on a felony charge of harboring a fugitive.
