Richards backs Sammy for criticising West Indies board
The West Indies has a rich cricket culture, and indeed cricket is what defines the West Indies.

On Sunday, Sammy also praised newly installed manager Rawl Lewis, who he said went to extraordinary lengths to solve a uniform problem during the pre-tournament camp in Dubai.
The tensions between the WICB and players were laid bare following the win, with captain Darren Sammy openly criticising the board for its apparent lack of support during the tournament. “There is nothing wrong with Sammy’s speech and I support Darren Sammy 100%”.
Johnson Charles, the opener, is the other St. Lucian in the West Indies squad, and will have a grandstand named after him at the venue.
The WICB vice president also took issue with the players for complaining about a reduction in their fee structure for the World Cup while not disclosing increases in fees for the regional competition. “I would have made the same apology whatever the results of the day, but I do so now in the knowledge that the people of the Caribbean will have celebrated long into the night and well into today”, Nicholas wrote in his column for ESPNCricinfo.
Bravo was the captain of the West Indies team when they cut short a tour of India in 2014 over a contractual dispute. But as I saw with my own eyes, the way the English people in the pub went quiet when Viv Richards, Clive Lloyd and Greenidge and Haynes were batting, or when Malcolm Marshall, Michael Holding and Joel Garner were bowling, I understood why Neville had waxed lyrical when talking of West Indies cricketers. “They keep telling him whenever he plays against me, do not speak to me because I am going to perform”, man of the match Samuels said in the press conference, during which he also teed off on long-time rival Shane Warne.
“I think Sammy is as honest as they come so it is going to be quite interesting, going forward, to see and to hear exactly what comes from the board”, said Richards, who never lost a Test series as the West Indies captain.
As players” representative, Sammy labelled the pay offered by the WICB as “totally unacceptable’.
“You might have played only one game in this tournament but as a veteran campaigner your guidance and support to the younger bowlers was crucial”, she said. His partnership with Marlon Samuels- who bagged Man of the Match- racked up a face-paced 54 from 26 deliveries.
Relations between the board and team have often been poisonous in recent years, with players furious over what they see as inadequate financial rewards. We have new owners and I will have new teammates. The players were nearly abandoned by their own board.
But WICB chief executive Michael Muirhead says his organisation should take some of the credit for the West Indies’ success in India, with the nation’s women’s side also beating Australia in their World T20 final.

This triumph has given West Indies cricket, and indeed world cricket, renewed hope. “I think that is our downfall”. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. This included players and cricket fans from around the world, as well as celebrities and public figures.
