A series of new details emerged Thursday, more than a week after 17 people died in one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern United States history.

The 19-year-old suspect Nikolas Cruz was captured an hour later in a neighborhood about 2 miles (3 kilometers) from the school where 17 people died February 14.

After the Parkland school shooting, students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school are leading a cry of never again.

“Addressed the killer. Killed the killer”, Israel said. Instead, the deputy waited outside for about four minutes. CNN has reached out to the deputies.

Sheriff Israel said he made a decision to suspend Mr Peterson after viewing a video that showed the deputy’s actions during the rampage that killed 17 people.

Also on Tuesday, an aide to Republican state Rep. Shawn Harrison was sacked over controversial comments about Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students.

Police said the footage being reviewed was 20 minutes old, which led to responding officers being told that the shooter was in a certain place, while officers on the scene said that he was not there. “It’s just insane that they’re here and then they’re gone”. The Department of Justice says most shootings are over within 5 minutes and the first officers who arrive at the scene of a active shooter can save many lives.

Still, the disclosure may help explain the time lapse between the shooting and the suspect’s arrest. “Your dedication and allegiance are the best illustrations of the service [the sheriff’s office] provides to the people of Broward County”, Israel wrote, according to the records.

In his speech to CPAC, Trump praised the National Rifle Association (NRA), the powerful gun lobby which has long advocated for more armed security at USA schools.

Rubio visited Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school and a few days later met with its teachers.

In remarks to reporters on Friday, Trump criticized the armed sheriff’s deputy assigned to the school for doing a “poor job”. We also need to talk about sensible gun control.

Trump, in a speech to a conservative gathering near Washington, also called for stronger background checks for gun buyers and criticized an armed deputy who failed to intervene during the shooting at the Parkland, Florida, school which left 17 people dead.

Deputies from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office are now standing guard outside Peterson’s home because his family fears for their safety.

Gun control advocates, meanwhile, have redoubled calls for bans or further restrictions on assault rifles. The tipster, it said, advised that the weapons were kept at a friend’s house at an unknown location.

In November 2017, a caller told authorities that Cruz had been stockpiling guns and knives.
