Ricky Gervais rips into Mel Gibson on stage at Golden Globes

Best foreign language film went to Hungary’s Laszlo Nemes’ “Son of Saul”, a harrowing view of life inside Auschwitz, and best animated film went to Pixar’s acclaimed “Inside Out”.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama was awarded to Brie Larson for her performance in Room.

To recap the 2016 Golden Globe Awards, The Revenant claimed the most awards. It now offers its subscription Internet video service in 190 countries. Mr Robot, about a computer programmer and vigilante hacker, took home the prize for Best Drama Series. Lady Gaga left with her first Globe for her recent work in “American Horror Story: Hotel”.

This will be the second year Amazon Studios has won both major awards in TV comedy categories. Sylvester Stallone, on the other hand, got the best supporting actor recognition for his role in “Creed”.

The film was released in theaters across the United States in October, and it comes out on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow (Jan. 12).

In a closely-contested men’s field, Leonardo DiCaprio won for his lead role as a fur trapper seeking retribution in “The Revenant”. I scoured the Internet to compile the best bits from the evening, and I now present them to you.

After presenters announced actress Taraji P. Henson won best actress in a TV drama, she handed out cookies to the other people at her table.

And so no one really thinks too hard about the endless declarations of genius by The Revenant’s Alejandro G. Inarritu, who is now so committed to his cockeyed idea of “realism” that he will probably get someone killed on his next film, or the weirdness of best actor (drama) victor Leonardo DiCaprio thanking the dozens of people who allowed him to court exposure and food poisoning in pursuit of Inarritu’s ecstatic truth.

On the television side, there were several surprising award recipients, with quite a few new faces replacing the traditional, expected winners. This was the first time that the pop singer was recognized for acting.

Experts point out that neither of last year’s Globes best picture winners-“Boyhood” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel”-ended up with an Oscar”. She also ignored the instructions to wrap up her speech.
