Williams is a partner and spokesman for Power Plant Fitness, a pot friendly gym that is scheduled to open this fall in San Francisco.

The ability to just light up a joint inside the gym hasn’t been secured due to local law, though in-house vaping and edibles will be available immediately upon opening. “We are focused on the athletic side, not the cannabis side”. 420 Games executive Jim McAlpine co-founded the business and told Trace William Cowen of Complex (warning: NFSW language) he’s excited to have the former football star on board. Alpine is quoted as saying Williams “exemplifies a successful and very athletic person who also uses cannabis”.

Williams was suspended for the entire 2006 National Football League season due to a failed drug test, after previously serving a four-game suspension for drug issues earlier in his career.

Williams played three seasons for the Saints after the team traded its entire allotment of draft picks in 1999 to select him at No. 5 overall. “Ricky is as smart as he is a talented athlete”.

He retired ahead of the 2004 season after learning he was getting a four-game suspension. He came back the next season, but was suspended for all of 2006 for failing his fourth drug test.

“I got to a point in my career where I realized, ‘I’m not going to be able to do this much longer, ‘” Williams said.

Williams recently spoke about how using cannabis helped him during his career. “One of the ways I took care of myself was using cannabis”.
