Ride Along 2 knocks Star Wars film off top spot

Awards buzz continues to lure cinema-goers to The Revenant. The drama earned over $19.6 million. Sequels will typically open bigger and fall faster. The film got a bite taken out of it by Ride Along 2 but is still cruising nicely to profit, with a $81.9 million total thus far in the United States and $94 million worldwide.

The Revenant wasn’t the only Oscar nominee to enjoy a bump.

Star Wars reached several milestones this weekend domestically and internationally. Previous “Star Wars” movies did not screen heavily in China. Star Wars should pass both Jurassic World and Furious 7’s global grosses before the end of its run.
