‘Ride Along 2’ passes ‘Star Wars’ to top United States box office

According to The Economist, the cumulative sales in Chinese box offices soared 40% annually from 2003 to 2010; the earning from Chinese cinemas surpasses those of Japan, the second biggest market.

Creed landed at No. 2 in its opening weekend with a solid $3.2 million, lower than the initial bow for Rocky Balboa, which earned $5.2 million in 2007. That’s good news for Fox and New Regency, the companies behind the US$135 million drama. Paramount says 41% of the film’s grosses came from the South, compared to the usual 33%.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens ranks as only the fifth film in history to cross the US$1 billion (S$1.44 billion) mark at the foreign box office. It likely earned a boost from the 12 Oscar nominations it received last week. The best-picture nominated Irish immigrant tale “Brooklyn” went up 51 percent with $2 million from 687 theaters. The four-day weekend estimate is $31 million. Where available, the latest global numbers for Friday through Sunday are also included. Ride Along 2 made $7 million less compared to the original Ride Along. Its A CinemaScore and positive reviews (well, positive for a Bay film) could help 13 Hours hold on over the coming weeks, but even the best-case scenario probably won’t see its domestic earnings surpass its $50 million production budget by all that much.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has become the fastest film ever to reach more than $1 million in ticket sales at IMAX, Darling Habour, Sydney.

The Forest followed in 7 place with an estimated $5.7 million. That brings its totals to $131.3 million domestically and $181.7 million worldwide. ‘Spotlight’ rose 66% with $1.5 million and has a $30.5 million domestic total. “Sisters”, $5.5 million. 10.

Ride Along 2 was able to take 1 place for the weekend, but it opened significantly lower than its predecessor. “Boonie Bears III”, $16 million. 4. Ride Along 2 may struggle to reach $100 million due to its smaller than anticipated opening. “Royal Treasure”, $11.5 million. 6.
