Ridley Scott’s ALIEN: COVENANT Gets a Title Treatment, Connects PROMETHEUS to

Now 20th Century Fox has confirmed a new title and release date for the film as well as a synopsis. Neill Blompkamp’s “Alien 5” is temporarily on hold, so Blompkamp proceeds to helming the film adaptation of Thomas Sweterlitsch’s new novel entitled “The Gone World”. So it’s simultaneously Prometheus 2, Alien 5 and the eighth in the franchise (if you count Alien Vs. Predator, which sadly we kinda have to).

Alien Covenant to be released October 6, 2017.

It’s been a little over three years since Ridley Scott returned to the world of Alien with his pseudo-prequel Prometheus, and its creator is ready to jump back in!

I personally liked Paradise Lost better than Covenant, as it sounded a little less action sequel-ish, but it likely doesn’t signify a notable change in plot. A few speculated that the new title indicated that the movie would center on the relationship between mankind and the Engineers. Scott casually mentioned the name change in a discussion at the AFI Film Festival, without really addressing the change.

Interesting…This implies that Noomi Rapace’s character, Elizabeth Shaw (the only human survivor from Prometheus), is no longer around and something has happened to her. Hopefully Covenant will explain what happened in a few way, and it’s not left dangling.

The film “Prometheus” focused on the story of the origin of mankind wherein a team travels across the universe before eventually finding a structure on a planet that houses a “monolithic statue” of a “humanoid head”.

Ridley Scott will return to the director’s chair while Michael Fassbender will reprise his role as the android David from “Prometheus”. At the very least we’ll begin seeing casting announcements soon as the movie begins shooting in February according to Scott.
