Thankfully, fans have been given a bit of clarification as to what the heck is going on. Earlier this month, it was being reported that Scott would actual begin filming the movie next January, although it wasn’t clear how this might affect production for Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5. It seems as if director Ridley Scott would rather have his film out first before Neill Blomkamp takes on “Alien“.
Or maybe he just wants to go first and be done with it.
‘Blomkamp continues to work on the script (only an outline existed previously) and refine the tale he is telling.
Production on P2 looks set to start early next year n time for a 2017 release while A5 is reportedly being scheduled to hit cinemas in 2016. The extended development process will allow for Blomkamp to further work out kinks in the script and figure out any scheduling issues concerning Sigourney Weaver’s commitment to the Avatar sequels. This follows Michael Biehn stating during an appearance at the Sheffield Film and Comic Con that he’s talked with Blomkamp about the film but hasn’t seen the script or been offered the role of Corporal Hicks.
Scott is also preparing to direct a sequel to 2012’s Prometheus, a loose spin-off from the Alien universe, with Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace confirmed to be reprising their roles.
What’s even more interesting is when Biehn claimed that Alien 5 would ignore Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection.
Despite all the buzz and involvement from people like Biehn and Weaver, Blomkamp’s Alien remains painfully lacking in the details department.
