Rihanna belts out hits medley to open VMA awards

Rihanna will be receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, an honor that’s been bestowed upon artists ranging from the Beatles (yes, really), to Beyonce over the years.

“I couldn’t choose even if there was a gun to my head”, the Tonight Show host said.

West told the VMA crowd: “I love all y’all”.

While the billboard itself made history in its own right, something incredible happened: Rihanna chose to show love right back.

Rihanna sang her hit, “Umbrella” with her then rumored beau, Chris Brown at 2007’s VMAs. And yet he remained absent from the show throughout the night, which included three performances from Rihanna. Although the two have not officially said they are dating, there have been rumours about them for years.

After presenting her with the award the pair went in a attractive hug and what appeared to be a quick kiss.

The show opened with a completely white set and dancers completely dressed in corseted, yet futuristic looks. See you next year for more of the same from the MTV VMAs!

Beyonce’s top-notch performance starkly contrasted with that of Spears, who returned to the VMA stage after 10 years. This year it is being awarded to Rihanna, who split up her performances throughout the night, singing hits such as “Work”, “We Found Love” and “Love on the Brain”.

Queen Bey brought her little girl along for a turn on the red carpet – and gave us serious mother and daughter goals as they both rocked some very extravagant gowns – but we have to say our fave was Blue’s princess dress! No, it was also because Drake, 29, was the one to take the stage to present it to her.
