Rihanna kicks off MTV VMAs, Beyonce set to perform

The Scottish producer sent a video message thanking MTV for the honour after missing the ceremony because he was performing in the UK.

The pop band DNCE, led by Joe Jonas, won best new artist.

Jimmy Fallon introduced the top nominees and dressed as Ryan Lochte, with platinum blonde hair. And then at the end, she gracefully accepted the award from a gushing Drake, who declared his love for her, and talked about winning the award for her home country of Barbados.
