Rihanna to open MTV Video Music Awards in New York

Last year, at the MTV Video Music Awards, the nation watched with one eyebrow raised as host Miley Cyrus strut around the stage stoned off her ass while she talked about pot brownies and got verbally accosted by Nicki Minaj on live television for talking smack to the press.

While much of her VMAs details have been kept under wraps, the singer will give a debut performance of her new song “Make Me…” featuring G-Eazy, which is from her upcoming album Glory.

But don’t count out Kanye West, the rapper with a talent for the unpredictable, who is a contender for the coveted video of the year award and who will be seated in the front row just a short leap from the VMA stage.

The VMAs air on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 9 p.m. ET (8 p.m. CT) on MTV. West and Drake are nominated in the best male video category, along with Bryson Tiller, Calvin Harris and The Weeknd. The single is the first song from his seventh studio album, The Life of Pablo.

Other stars who will be attending the award show as presenters includes: Diddy, Alicia Keys, Ansel Elgort, Bebe Rexha, Fifth Harmony, Jaden Smith, Kim Kardashian, Rita Ora, Shameik Moore and Tove Lo.

What do you think of reports suggesting that Britney Spears is “freaking out” over her big comeback?

But this time are they sitting with her for support, or for screen time?

All eyes will be on Swift Sunday night, not only because of the recent Kimye drama, but also because she was also effectively snubbed, receiving zero nominations for 2016.

“She has had such a huge impact on this show throughout her career, so for us to have her back is a no-brainer”, said Garrett English, executive producer of the VMA show.
