Rihanna Was Reportedly Blocked From Performing A Free Concert In Baltimore

One of Ri-Ri’s reps was in contact with the head of media relations at the police department, a message dated back to May 1 showed, where it explained that she wanted to perform and march with protestors.

The officer wrote that the singer’s representative “advised that Rihanna wants to walk with the protesters as well as perform a free concert”.

Emails released Monday reveal that Rihanna expressed interest in coming to Baltimore, performing a free concert, and walking with protesters.

The officer added that Rihanna deliberate to reach by aircraft and, in an effort to divert press/media, journey to the town by practice and even by auto if essential. He also said that Rihanna’s representative was seeking extra security, and was directed to the communications office for assistance. Murphy also copied Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake on the letter.

During the uprising, the superstar posted an image to her Instagram account – Baltimore-based photographer Devin Allen’s image of a black police officer with tears in his eyes.

But soon after the messages were forwarded to then-Police Commissioner Anthony Batts, plans for the concert were scuttled under the justification that the singer had no permit to perform.

Ultimately, Prince staged a concert for the people of Baltimore at Royal Farms arena and the event was livestreamed by a company owned by music label executive Jay Z.
