Riley gets biggest win at NU as Huskers upset Oregon

In Nebraska’s first game of the season, during the team’s first punt, the Huskers lined up with only 10 players on the field in a salute to Foltz.

D’Onta Foreman ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns, while Chris Warren added 118 yards on the ground and two scores for the Longhorns (2-1), who were looking for their first 3-0 start since 2012.

Banker said the Huskers made way too many mistakes that helped keep OR drives alive, including a 10-play, 97-yard march that put the Ducks ahead 32-28 with 10:31 to play.

OR has a ton of depth and talent at the Running Back position and it showed against the Cornhuskers.

The win was a big one for Nebraska coach Mike Riley, who was 0-7 against Ducks from 2008-14, his last seven years as Oregon State’s coach.

As he was propped up in the end zone, the Husker defense had to figure out how it was going to stop an OR offense that still had two and a half minutes to operate. Devine Ozigbo also ran for 95 yards.

After Freeman hobbled off the field with an apparent lower leg injury, Tony Brooks-James took over impressively. OR racked up 56 yards on the ground, including a 20-yard dash down the sideline for Tony Brooks-James’ first score of the game.

Today’s OR vs Nebraska college football game has a start time schedule of 3:30 PM eastern time and broadcasts on TV channel ABC.

“That’s brutal”, Portland State coach Bruce Barnum said of the 34 yards rushing.

“Especially with the preseason rankings and current rankings, we have an underdog feel, and I love that, and the guys love that”, quarterback Dakota Prukop said.

In an amazingly evenly played game through three quarters, the Huskers took a 28-26 lead to the fourth with both teams totaling 338 yards in the first 45 minutes. Nebraska needs to keep OR running back Royce Freeman in check and make the Ducks work the field instead of churning out big plays. He led the Ducks with five catches against Virginia.

A late touchdown run for Armstrong was the difference as the Cornhuskers won a huge home game.

Freeman came out during the Ducks’ second possession of the game. OR has had a 1,000-yard rusher each of the last nine seasons and is on track to have another one this year in Freeman.

The two teams exchanged unsuccessful drives in less than two minutes to set up an OR punt with just over 40 seconds left.

De’Mornay Pierson-El was the answer. That takes guts. That’s how you win football games. The Ducks were penalized 13 times for 126 yards, and for the second straight week their defense wore down in the second half.

“We didn’t fare all that well through the many years with them”, Riley said, “but it was a great rivalry and we saw changes in both programs as we went forward”. The Huskers scored when Armstrong found walk-on wide receiver Bryan Reimers in the end zone for six. New coordinator Brady Hoke seems to have this group on the right path, and the Ducks have limited their first two opponents to just 4.88 yards per play. “And that just fueled that fire, going down and scoring”.

They had not. The Ducks overcame a third-and-27 play on one drive to score a touchdown, then went 97 yards for another score early in the fourth quarter to forge back ahead 32-28. And for the second straight season, OR is trying to make due with a graduate transfer quarterback from I-AA, this time Dakota Prukop from Montana State. Nelson was Prukop’s favorite target, hauling in eight receptions for 80 yards.

The Ducks scored on a 41-yard touchdown run right before the end of the third quarter to cut the lead to just two points. It was the longest streak of its kind in NCAA history.

For the first time since December of 2014, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are ranked in a major poll.
