Fate seems to have had a different plan.

Adrian and Brooke met in middle school. “Adrian and Brooke Franklin met at the North Carolina church as grade school students before their parents” friends’ wedding, according to ABC News.

While it wasn’t necessarily love at first sight for this couple, a ring bearer and flower girl ended up falling in love and getting married 17 years after they were in the wedding of family friends.

Two weeks ago, the couple married at South Gastonia Church of God – the same church where they walked together in a bridal party as five-year-old classmates.

“I was devastated”, Adrian said.

“He actually had my whole family and his whole family hide”.

“Before our wedding day I had a sign made that said “Will you marry me” but I cut the question mark out.”

“I was always trying to get away from her and run from her and hide from her”, Adrian said to WBTV.

“We went to school together and I would always try to play with him on the playground and he wouldn’t have anything to do with it”, Brooke said. “It was just the best proposal ever”. When Adrian first asked Brooke to be his girlfriend in high school, he reportedly wrote the words out on her back using his finger.

“We’ve had people tell us we’re young”, Adrian said.
