He has reunited the Beatles, sort of.
The Associated Press reported Irsay spent $2.2 million at an auction Friday to buy Ringo Starr’s first Ludwig drum set.
Paul McCartney, guitarist John Lennon, drummer Ringo Starr and guitarist George Harrison perform on live TV in 1963. He claimed that the purchase of the drum kit had brought The Beatles “together again” after 45 years.
Meanwhile, Irsay soon could be giving his head coach and/or G.M. the Pete Best treatment.
The two-day auction included over 800 items owned by Starr and his wife, actress Barbara Bach.
Meanwhile, Starr’s former drum kit sold at the auction for $2.2 million (£1.4 million) to Jim Irsay, owner of National Football League team the Indianapolis Colts.
The auction runs until Saturday in Beverly Hills and also online via Julien Auction’s website.
Mr Irsay, a known collector and huge music fan, also owns famous guitars played by Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton and has 175 classic guitars in his collection.

According to NME, the first ever copy of the Beatles self-titled 1968 album sold for $910,000 at auction. A portion of the proceeds will go to his Lotus Foundation charity, supporting social welfare.
