Rio 2016: Australia’s team pursuit rider Melissa Hoskins crashes, taken to hospital
Australian rider Melissa Hoskins was taken from the Rio Olympics velodrome on a stretcher after her pursuit team crashed hard while doing a training effort at race speed. The others members of the team pursuit unit for the Olympic track competition starting Wednesday – Ashlee Ankudinoff, Amy Cure and Georgia Baker – fell like dominoes, having been cycling at speed before they crashed.

Britain’s quartet came third in London but are the defending Olympic champions.
Annette Edmondson was the only one of the five Australian endurance riders who did not fall.
A New Zealand women’s team pursuit entry would consist of Rushlee Buchanan, Jaime Nielsen, Racquel Sheath, Lauren Ellis and maybe Georgia Williams.
“An update on her condition will be provided when available”.
Hoskins’s accident follows the horror crash of Annemiek van Vleuten during the women’s road race on Sunday.
“Edmondson was leading the team into turn three at the end of the back straight and she stayed on her bike but her four team-mates did not”.
The Dutch team’s chief medical officer Cees Rein van den Hoogenband visited the 33-year-old on Monday.
