Rio 2016 Olympic flame is lit at temple of Hera in Greece
“Brazil will start telling the world a different story from the one we usually see in the news lately”, said 2016 Olympics Ceremonies producer Marco Balich, who traveled from Rio to Olympia to witness the lighting of the flame.

Adam Scott and Louis Oosthuizen have opted not to compete in this year’s Rio Games, but the International Golf Federation remains optimistic over the sport’s return to the Olympic programme. “But exactly where remains a secret”.
Rio municipal secretary Pedro Paulo Carvalho said a third person was thought to be missing following the incident. “It’s impossible to have two cauldrons, and it’s impossible to have the same cauldron in two places”.
According to the city’s government, a strong wave struck, causing a 50-meter (164-foot) stretch of the path to detach and drop 800 meters (nearly half a mile) to Sao Conrado Beach. Downtown is also remote from the Olympic Park in the western suburb of Barra da Tijuca.
The flame is due to arrive in Brazil on 3 May for a relay across the country, travelling through hundreds of cities and villages in every Brazilian state.
Dancers dressed as priestesses display the Olympic flame during the ceremonial lighting of the Olympic flame in Ancient Olympia, Greece, Thursday, April 21, 2016.
“These Olympic Games will be a message of hope in troubled times – and indeed the flame will carry this message into all corners of Brazil and, indeed, all the world”, he said.
“Brazil is ready”, the country’s acting sports minister, Ricardo Leyser, said. The Senate will vote to impeach Rousseff as soon as May, which could remove her from office. Now, this Syrian athlete may be headed to the Olympics.

The flame then goes to the Planalto presidential palace. This is the precursor to the traditional torch relay. Part of an elevated bike lane built ahead of the Olympic Games collapsed on Thursday, killing at least two people who were on it when cement gave way. The structure opened in January as a way to connect thousands of Olympic visitors with the smaller towns outside of Rio.
