Rio 2016: Olympics is all that matters to Team GB’s dominant cyclists

“It was a mixture of relief but also feeling so happy for him”. I remember crying and he just had this massive smile on his face. We had been flying in the earlier rounds but knew the final would be tough. “It was the ideal end to the Games”.

‘You can see my teeth in all the photos taken of me, especially the close ups where I am biting my medals!’ explained Laura. There’s always an element of luck involved, but I knew I’d hit a great shot and it was a lovely moment for me. “Don’t get me wrong, it would have been nice because they were in London, but it’s always been around the Olympics”, she told BBC Radio 5 Live. ‘I just noticed earlier today that it was still less than a week ago that we were racing in Rio which is freaky. So for us it was about performing there and I think if we’d come away and under-performed at the Olympics, we’d have been gutted if we’d cleaned up at London because it would have meant we’d have peaked at the wrong time. “It didn’t change anything, we still had to ride hard to the end before we could celebrate”.

‘I’m very much in control of mine whereas with Jason I have absolutely no idea what is going on in his head, so literally I’m like “oh no, oh no” every time. “I saw my mum and dad and GB flags, it was incredible”. “During the race, you are so focussed, but straight after I looked to the crowd and saw George and my family and went straight to be with them”.
