Rio 2016: PV Sindhu wanted me to lose focus, says Carolina Marin

Despite the heart breaking loss in the final, Sindhu’s kind gesture showed her huge love for the sport and respect for her opponent. The Telangana government announced an award of Rs 1 crore for the 21-year-old, and there were reports that it is considering offering her a plot of land in the state as well. Sindhu brought a silver medal in the singles badminton final match at the Rio Olympics to India.

A recipient of Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, Sindhu has been coached by Indian badminton legend Pullela Gopichand – a former world number four in men’s badminton and victor of the 2001 All England Badminton Championships. The parents also thanked coach Pullela Gopi Chand for his contribution in their daughter’s rise.

Moving to the current time, Currently PV Sindhu and Carolina Marina are competing against each other for gold medal in Rio 2016.

Indian cricketer, Ravichandran Ashwin also wished Sindhu for her feat, as she became the fifth Indian woman to pick up a medal at the Olympic games.
