Rio 2016 updated medal count: Which country leads Tuesday with most medals?

The 2016 Summer Olympic Games are on, and the medals are flowing.

Athletes continue to break records this Olympics: Kazakhstan’s Dmitriy Balandin won his country’s first gold medal in swimming, and Michael Phelps keeps adding to his medal count as the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time. A New Jersey native who started fencing in part because the uniform allowed her to adhere to the tenets of her faith, Muhammad also competes in the team event later this week.

Behind Team USA was China with 13 medals, Japan with 10 medals and Russian Federation with 10 medals.

The Rio 2016 results for Team USA in the men’s gymnastics final were less than golden. The United States still leads the way with the most medals.

Just a reminder: in London the British squad ended up with 29 gold, 17 silver and 19 bronze medals, while in Beijing the final numbers were 19, 13 and 15. The U.S. men also on the court, as they face their toughest challenge yet, in Australia, which boasts three National Basketball Association players in their starting five. But even though she’s new to the Olympics, many have proclaimed her to be the best women’s gymnast in history.

In the women’s 100m back final, Kathleen Baker earned the silver medal behind Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who is proving herself a force at the Rio Games.

American Lilly King won a trash-talking duel with Russian Yulia Efimova for the gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke on Monday night, the US men’s basketball team surged after a slow start, beating Venezuela 113-69, and Serena Williams struggled before beating France’s Alize Cornet 7-6 (5), 6-2 in her bid for a second consecutive singles gold medal.
