Rio 2016: Yorkshire rowers help GB to medals joy
The Team GB Women’s Eight took silver on Saturday, coming in behind the pre-race favourites the United States, to add to Great Britain’s medal haul on Rio’s Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. Germany closed the gap slightly towards the end, claiming second just 1.33 seconds behind the gold-medal victor.

Britain led throughout the race and finished a good distance ahead of Germany, who came second, and the Netherlands, who took home the bronze medal.
Andrew Triggs Hodge and Pete Reed are now three-time Olympic gold medallists having won titles in Beijing and London in the men’s four.
Great Britain enjoyed a golden finale to the Rio 2016 rowing regatta as the men’s eight won gold in dominant fashion.
“I can’t put it into words”.
The success following the women’s eight winning their first ever medal in the event after taking silver behind reigning champions US.
Reed added: “I’ve never been so ready for an Olympic Games before”. Team GB looked set to miss out the podium having been last at the halfway stage, but a late surge saw them pip the teams from Romania and early leaders Canada, to finish behind the Americans.
“These girls are strong, sassy, inspirational and I am so proud of them”.
