“The warm-up water is in flawless condition with ascetics, visibility and transparency for the athletes to perform at their best”.

World swimming governing body FINA blamed the colour change on a failure by the organisers to sufficiently treat the water after tanks at the venue ran out of pool chemicals.

Some divers have said the green water actually helps them during competition by giving them a contrast with the blue sky when they’re spinning through the air. (Science!) Meanwhile, the pool’s electronic monitoring system didn’t pick up the chlorine wasn’t working anymore.

Some water polo players have complained about itchy eyes.

Olympic organisers admit they have been left red faced over Rio’s green pool.

He added that there was an “unprecedented” last-minute change to the schedule of the women’s swimming competition on Friday, made in consultation with FINA, broadcasters and technical experts.

By now you’ve heard about the green diving pool at the Olympics.

Nascimento said the entire operation will take 10 hours – six to drain almost 1m gallons of dirty water out of the competition pool and four to bring in the clean water using pumps and hoses.

Crews work against the clock to drain and replace the water polo pool in time for the synchronised swimming event this morning.

We did all the chemical tests’. There has been no health problem at all. We’ve been guided by health experts from FINA and Rio 2016 all the way through.

German Olympic diver Patrick Hausding had some fun on Instagram posting pictures of the smelly pool and a photoshopped (at least we hope it is) picture of him turning green after being in the pool. We could have done better in fixing it quickly.

The water polo pool also changed colour over the course of the week. He has tried to allay concerns for the past week, constantly reminding the media the water is safe and not an issue. N one even thinks to mention the picturesque water. My quote was not an isolated quote.

The water of the diving pool at right appears a murky green as the water polo pool at left appears a greener colour than the previous day during a preliminary round match between United States and France in the Maria Lenk Aquatic Center at the 2016 Summer
