The Olympics will kick off in Rio de Janeiro this week with the opening ceremony, which will launch the first Games to take place in Brazil – and South America.

With 22 Olympic medals, including 18 golds, Phelps is the most decorated Olympian in the history of the global showpiece.

The Australian Olympic Committee announced that it had deemed the Olympic Village “uninhabitable” for its athletes.
