Trott is seeking her second gold medal at Rio after helping Great Britain defend the team pursuit title they won at London 2012.

And last night he won the “keirin” in spectacular fashion despite two false starts.

Teenage gymnast Amy Tinkler – Team GB’s youngest athlete at 16 – won bronze in the women’s floor exercise final. Her accomplishment came from a pair of gold medals in the London Games as well as a gold in the team pursuit this past weekend and gold in the women’s omnium Tuesday.

Their places in Olympic history secured, Kenny is now looking forward to returning home and getting out of the glare that comes with the Games.

Jason Kenny won gold in the Men’s Keirin in the final track cycling event of Rio 2016 as he reigned victorious in what was a hugely tense race inside the Velodrome. I couldn’t have done it without them, especially my coach Paul Manning who puts up with my crap on a daily basis. And not only do they have the most Olympic medals of any couple, but Trott herself has more gold medals than any other British woman.

Chris Boardman, an Olympic gold medallist at the 1992 Olympics, was commentating the moment.

Trott, 24, and Kenny, 28, are both track cyclists. – An emotional Trott was stunned after her record-breaking exploits.

When it did finally get going, Kenny timed his move to perfection, overtaking Dutchman Matthijs Buchli and Awang, who won silver and bronze respectively.

She had struggled with the format change which saw greater emphasis placed on the points race, but coach Paul Manning deserves vast credit for her vastly improved race craft. It’s special, I’m really proud of Laura’.

Racing was stopped again after Germany’s world champion Joachim Eilers made the same infringement, but also avoided being penalised.

Marchant, James’ team-mate, claimed bronze by beating Elis Ligtlee 2-0 in the race for third.

And now that they’ve got a whopping 10 golds between them (plus a silver) they will be heading home from Rio to get hitched next month.
