Rio Olympics 2016: What to watch on Saturday, August 13

The victory was a fourth gold medal for Jason Kenny. That’s not true. I work just as hard as anybody else, and I love the sport, and I want to win just like everybody else. “I am not gonna be competing in four years”, Phelps said following his Friday performance.

United States Olympic swimming superstars Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte squared off Wednesday night in Rio in an event that will perhaps lead to their last Olympic finals showdown.

“I just don’t see it happening”, Bowman said.

“It’s going to take a ideal performance in order to beat him because of how tough a competitor he is”, said world record holder Lochte, who has taken two silvers and a bronze behind Phelps in Athens, Beijing and London. Canada’s Hilary Caldwell won the bronze medal.

Phelps became the third Olympian to win the same individual event at four straight Games, joining discus thrower Al Oerter and Carl Lewis in the long jump in achieving the feat.

Cate Campbell posted the fastest time in the semifinals, an Olympic-record 52.71 seconds and younger sister Bronte was fifth-fastest at 53.29. It’s Singapore’s first medal in swimming.

Keep an eye on Japan’s Kosuke Hagino, who also has a shot to make the podium.

“It’s been a tough road, I’m not going to lie, the first guy through the wall, it’s always bloody”, he said.

It was a surreal moment for Schooling, who had just beaten three of the greatest butterfly exponents in Phelps, South Africa’s Chad Le Clos and Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh, all of whom tied for second.

Like many of his contemporaries in Rio, who grew up idolizing Phelps, he keeps an old photo of himself as a bespectacled teenager with the American that was taken at a meeting in Singapore after the 2008 Beijing Olympics. I said it a bunch before. And Russia goes for its first gold medal in the pool in the men’s 200 backstroke.

Ledecky turned in a split of 1 minute, 53.74 seconds, which was almost 2.5 seconds faster than her next-fastest teammate, Allison Schmitt in 1:56.21.

“Even a silver medal would have been a great success for the team”.
