British cycling’s power couple Jason Kenny & Laura Trott dominated on Tuesday as they helped Team GB take their medals tally to 50 in Rio.

Jason Kenny, 46, has been getting more than 50 messages a day on Twitter from fans of his namesake who has won three gold medals in Rio.

Annette Edmondson fell out of medal contention in the omnium and Matthew Glaetzer did not reach the keirin final. James won the silver and Elis Ligtlee from the Netherland bagged the bronze medal.

While there are Australian medal hopes in the BMX, it is a chaotic and unpredictable event.

“Usually when they shoot the gun someone gets disqualified, but it was very tight between us and that rule is very vague”.

“We’ll look at the good, bad ugly and what could we do different”.

‘I’m really happy to get three – I’m not so happy to let Chris be right again’.

While crashes and other misfortune have plagued Australian cycling’s Rio campaign, Tabotta said there were no excuses. Büchli won the bronze in keirin at the 2013 UCI Track World Championships.

He said some nations at the Olympics are only on par with World Cup or World Championship performances, “whereas we’ve been able to make that step because this is the event we’re focused on the most”.

‘But it was the hours of sacrifice, not just that we made, from not going to school discos or going out with friends or the sacrifices that mum and dad made for us.

Tabotta was adamant that Australian cycling’s best athletes and coaches were in the Rio team.

Macclesfield MP David Rutley said local athletes are a great inspiration to the community.

Competitors must wait until the pace bike has departed the track before opening up the sprint for the final two laps.

She dominated throughout to win with 230 points, a whopping 24 clear of American Sarah Hammer.

Edmondson won the omnium world championship previous year and also won bronze at the London Olympics. Now she has four and at the age of 24 there is no telling how many she might eventually collect.

There was further British success in the women’s individual sprint, but it would not be another gold, with Germany’s Kristina Vogel triumphing in the final.

James’ team-mate Katy Marchant won bronze for Britain by beating Dutch keirin gold medallist Elis Lightlee in straight rides.
