Rio Olympics: `Sprint king` Bolt wins heat, qualifies for 200m semis

The Jamaican superstar won for the first time at that distance at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, when Gatlin was serving a suspension for a doping suspension.

Rio de Janeiro, Aug 16: World record and Olympics record holder at the games and 7 times gold medal victor Usain Bolt revealed that his favourite football team is Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Others who will challenge him include American Justin Gatlin and Canadian Andre De Grasse, who finished 2-3 to Bolt in the 100, along with LaShawn Merritt of the U.S. They all won their heats on a muggy, sun-splashed day in a stadium with huge swaths of empty blue seats.

Bolt says achieving his “triple triple” – three consecutive Olympic golds in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m – will make him immortal.

Bolt’s final Olympic race, assuming two-time defending champion Jamaica qualifies for the 4×100-meter final, will be held Friday at 9:35 p.m. “I am better this season”, he said.

De Grasse won the bronze medal for Canada in Sunday’s men’s 100 meter final.

He said: “Somebody said if I win these three gold medals I would be immortal and I kind of liked it”.

When American sprinter Justin Gatlin was announced to the crowd at Olympic Stadium, the reaction was mixed, to put it kindly. When he came to Jamaica, I said to him that he was the only person I thought could break the 400m world record because he’s very fast and he keeps on going so, for me, I wasn’t really surprised that he got it tonight, because he ran really well through the rounds.

“I’m not even going to get into what happened because I can not change it”, Campbell-Brown said. “I came to prove I’m one of the greats”, Bolt said, according to India Today.

“I think its actually much better for the 200m, we’ll have time to recover over the days”. I didn’t want to go out.

Jason Kenny defeated Callum Skinner in an all-Britain final to defend his cycling individual sprint gold and win his second gold of the Rio Games.

“I feel pretty proud of myself”.

“I will run as hard as I possibly can”, Bolt signed off.

“It is special. When I was 13, I remember I first watched the Olympics, and seeing Usain [Bolt] win gold back-to-back, before I even started track”.
