Rio Olympics: The ‘golden boy’ Schooling mobbed on return to Singapore

After news that brands and companies have adopted Schooling’s 50.39-second Olympic record for their own marketing campaigns, it’s high time the swimmer made his own mark. He has been granted a further deferment till after the Tokyo 2020 edition.

“This will be a boost to my Tokyo 2020 campaign and is a weight off my shoulders. But I hope this will pave the way for budding athletes, and give them the leeway to train and honour and glory to the country”.

Schooling already had a three-year deferment ending after Rio 2016, but his sensational performance made another extension a formality.

He will then travel from Orchard Road to Bras Basah Road between 12.15pm and 12.45pm, when he is then slated to meet fans at Raffles City shopping centre till 2pm.

Immediately following Schooling’s victory, a heated debate hit Singapore’s social media community as to whether Schooling would be forced to abandon training in order to complete NS. By beating Phelps in the great man’s final individual race, Schooling has in a sense inherited the butterfly baton from the American, now we can only wait and watch to see the heights that Schooling takes it to. It’s pretty insane to think you’ve had an interaction with an Olympic gold medal victor’. “I just think in the USA, I’m more suited, or I’m more used to the United States training style now, the environment and everything”, he said. I’ve got a good shot. So that wasn’t too bad.

“It’s special, because it shows that I have been able to change the sport a little bit and that’s something I’ve always wanted to do”.

“I think 200 IM would be a good race”.

“200m freestyle – maybe, maybe not”.

“When I was a kid, I wasn’t the easiest guy to handle”.

“For me personally, I like to be on top, I like having people chase me, that’s why I like to be the fastest qualifier in the heat, in the semis, and hopefully in the finals”. The deferment is something that the 21-year-old said he was “honoured and privileged” to be granted. “My arm is burning right now”, he remarked.

Salazar claims that last April fellow student at the University of Texas, Joseph Schooling, had struck up a conversation with her on the dating app.

“When I’m 25 I’m going to be at my peak”.

He also addressed rumours that he was married, with mirth. I was watching and shouting for him.
