Rio Paralympics 2016: Natasha Baker wins for Great Britain

Britain’s success in the velodrome continued on the road as Storey’s 13th Paralympic title and second of Rio 2016 was followed by gold for Karen Darke in the H1-2-3 event and for Steve Bate and his pilot Adam Duggleby in the men’s tandem event.

Competing in the Paralympics men’s 1,500m T13 final Monday for visually-impaired athletes, the top-four finishers all ran faster than Olympic 1,500m champion Matthew Centrowitz Jr.

The 49-year-old won the 20-km H5 hand-cycling road time trial in Rio de Janeiro to add to the two golds he won on his Paralympics debut in London four years ago.

On Friday, Ruzhdi won his first Paralympic medal in the shot put, throwing 12.33m to smash his own world record and clinch the gold by nearly a meter’s margin. “I was feeling calm, not thinking, ‘Oh, I need to get a medal.’ I wasn’t feeling the pressure and that’s why I was very good”.

Like Christiansen and Baker, Cockroft now has three golds from Rio.

Peyman Nassiri, Ebrahim Ranjbar, Ali Sadeghzadeh, and Asadollah Azimi have bagged the bronze medals of Iran’s delegation so far. Next year’s London Marathon will be the last race of my career.
