Rio Paralympics closes with cyclist tribute

The Paralympian was cycling on a mountainous stretch of the road race at the time of the crash, according to a statement from the International Paralympic Committee.

And Middle Eastern politics spilled onto the goalball court as the Algerian women’s team forfeited two games as a suspected boycott against Israel.

Japanese athletes captured 24 medals – 10 silvers and 14 bronzes, but no gold. The country won more medals in athletics-33 in total.

New Zealand successfully defended its title as the No 1 country for medals per capita, a title secured during the London 2012 Paralympics.

McFadden has won two golds and four silvers out of her seven events at Rio, after the disappointment of Team USA’s disqualification from the 4x400m relay.

It was also a fantastic Games for Great Britain who finished with 147 medals, 61 of them gold.

Both athletes received a solid gold medal.

The Australian defending Paralympic and world champions include Ryley Batt, who’s sometimes referred to as the LeBron James of wheelchair rugby and widely regarded as one of the best players the sport has ever seen.
