Rio Police Charges Olympian Swimmer Ryan Lochte For False Report Filing

Lochte left Brazil before police were able to question him about the incident. Police alleged Lochte fabricated the story and guards at the gas station detained the four after Lochte vandalized a poster at the gas station.

But were he not to appear, Lochte would lose the opportunity to negotiate a fine before charges were pressed, Braune said.

Lochte gained a new sponsor on Thursday – Pine Bros Softish Throat Drops.

Melissa Nathan, the swimmer’s spokeswoman, had no comment.

Feigen’s Brazilian attorney said last week he would make a $10,800 payment to an “institution” and leave Brazil later in the day. The Rio police will finish their investigation this week and send their findings to state prosecutors, which in turn would be sent to the proper federal law enforcement agency in the USA and notify the swimmer. He’ll appear in ads that say the company products are “Forgiving of Your Throat”.

However, as Conger and Bentz tried to leave the country three days later, Rio officials removed them from a USA -bound airplane and questioned them about the robbery claim.

Lochte had earlier issued a written apology that was widely ridiculed online as half-hearted.

“I should have been much more responsible in how I handled myself and for that am sorry to my teammates, my fans, my fellow competitors, my sponsors, and the hosts of this great event”. The news of the gas station assault also dominated news coverage of the Summer Games.

Brazilian police on August 25 said Lochte will be informed of the indictment so he can decide whether to introduce a defense in Brazil. Blackmun did not offer specifics but expressed frustration at their behavior.

“There was no robbery”, Rio de Janeiro Civil Police Chief Fernando Veloso said. After a shootout loss to Sweden and no medal for the mighty American women’s team, the goalkeeper lashed out at the winners, calling them “a bunch of cowards” for their defensive style of play.
