“So, I think, we need to diffuse it because it is going to run during the course of the Olympics and we need to get it off the agenda”.

The President of the Olympic Council of Ireland has apologised for any embarrassment caused by the ticket tout scandal.

The authorised ticket-re-seller for the OCI is Pro 10 Sports Management based in Lucan, Co Dublin.

The statement says there has been misleading coverage here and overseas about the firm.

Pro10 says it has “always acted properly and fully in line with the ATR guidelines” and that it will cooperate “fully and properly” with Brazilian authorities during their investigations.

“In the meantime, the OCI has also recommended to the IOC and the Rio 2016 Organising Committee that if any wrongdoing is discovered on the part of any ATR in this affair then its status as an ATR be reviewed both for Rio 2016 and future Games”.

The statement also alleged that they had sent an explanation to Mr Ferreti on Wednesday, but that he had not responded.

“These had been made available for sale through the authorised ticket reseller process and were sold to legitimate customers of PRO10 at face value plus the allowed ATR reseller fee”.

The company said it is usual for large numbers of tickets to be held in one place for legal resale.

“Pro 10 is now discussing this matter with our lawyers and we wish to make no further comment on this matter which could prejudice our case”, concluded the statement.

Mr Mallon works for THG, a London-based global ticket reseller and corporate hospitality firm, part of Ipswich Town Football Club owner Marcus Evans’s group of companies.

There has been tension between the Olympic Council of Ireland and the Minister over the issue.

Speaking this afternoon he said there is a very big question mark over the Olympic Council of Ireland’s inquiry.

“The OCI is conducting a full and robust inquiry and is awaiting information and evidence from the Rio investigating authorities”, Hickey told insidethegames today.
