Teenage gymnast Amy Tinkler – Team GB’s youngest athlete at 16 – won bronze in the women’s floor exercise final. She just had to watch out for Hammer and D’Hoore to make sure they didn’t gain laps on her to win her fourth career Olympic gold medal.

Kenny said: “Maybe when we retire, we’ll frame them, put them on the wall”. Earlier, she had won the women’s team pursuit event.

Regardless, they were snapped kissing at the 2012 London Olympics (behind David Beckham) – and the rest is history.

Laura Trott leaped to her sister Emma’s defence on social media on Wednesday morning, after viewers of Good Morning Britain criticised Emma following a TV interview in which she was judged to appear “bitter” and “jealous” of her sibling’s success at the Olympics.

“It’s fantastic, obviously. I’m really happy for Laura”, Kenny said.

The Scot, who was commentating from the BBC balcony overlooking the track, clenched his fist when Kenny stormed through to win the keirin, bringing the curtain down on a great week for the British team who won six of the 10 titles.

The New Zealand-based sister of Britain’s Olympic golden girl Laura Trott who was branded a “bitter” and “jealous” sibling in the United Kingdom media has today spoken about her shock and sadness over the extraordinary backlash. She is the most successful British female Olympian.

While Trott was totally dominant in the omnium, Kenny’s keirin victory was controversial.

Kenny and Awang looked to have infringed the first time while German world champion Joachim Eilers was heading the field the second time, although television replays suggested he’d done nothing wrong. “It’s a bit vague, that kind of rule”.

His video evidence also spared Eilers on the second false start. The pair are now engaged (Jason proposed on Christmas Day in 2014) and are due to get married in 2017.

“He’d already said to me that he thought he had the legs for it, he just hoped he didn’t mess it up”.

The report comes after USA gold medallist Ryan Lochte and three team mates said they were robbed by armed men carrying police badges while travelling to the Athletes’ Village in a taxi in the early hours of the morning after a party.

Dyer insisted that Kenny should be counted amongst his country’s greatest ever sportsmen.

British pursuit star Joanna Rowsell-Shand said the point is to peak for the Olympics, not for the world championships or any other competition.
