Rivers Politics: Leaders Resolve To Peaceful Elections
The Executive of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has explained why he had a meeting in which he agreed to a peace accord with his predecessor and Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi. “It is not in our position to have crisis because we are the ones losing”.

In a statement on Tuesday, police spokesman, Donald Awunah, who said that the truce was brokered by the inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris and the director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, added that the duo “resolved to be irrevocably committed to lasting peace and vouched to play the game by the rules in the forthcoming re-run elections in the state”.
“The governor of Rivers state said I squandered N3 trillion”.
Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has again reiterated that as governor of Rivers State for eight years, he was transparent and did not embezzle money meant for the people.
He called on PDP members to remain vigilant while expecting the rerun elections.
“We went to court against the Rivers State government on their allegation of corruption against me. So shall it be forever”, the governor said.
“In the Commission’s view, the rhetorics of some of the political actors, the incidence of violence in a number of local government areas where these elections are scheduled and the atmosphere of fear and intimidation created present danger in proceeding with elections as earlier scheduled”.
Also speaking, Deputy Governor Ipalibo Banigo said the massive turnout of the people was an indication that the people would always vote PDP candidates.
Deputy Director, Relations/Communications, CLO South South, said it is nearly eight months or more since the Appeal Court on Election petitions in Abuja in 2015, ordered a rerun election in the national and state legislative seats in Rivers state but INEC has failed to complete the rerun ever since, basing its excuses on insecurity and electoral violence.
