RNC boss: Tebow won’t speak at GOP convention

A key Republican National Convention committee crushed a long-shot attempt by rogue delegates to block Donald Trump’s nomination, as internal strife that’s roiled the party for much of the past decade was on full display Thursday amid fights over governing rules for the next four years. If the proposal had received 28 votes on the rules committee, it would have required a vote of all delegates at the convention. Foes said they believed the movement was essentially finished. So it was never a real opportunity. “They were never there”. Hall is one of two MI delegates who were on the rules committee. In practice this has meant that candidates are presumed to vote for the candidate who won their state or district in the primaries BUT there is an out-to be used when the candidate presents an issue of conscience.

The “free the delegates” push had been the last-ditch effort of Trump opponents who, organizing under the #NeverTrump hashtag on social media, tried approach after approach to topple Trump’s presidential campaign.

The effort was led by Kendal Unruh, a delegate who supported defeated Texas Senator Ted Cruz in the primaries. When Trump became the de-facto nominee in May, Scott’s campaign told McClatchy that as he had “consistently said over the past year”, he would support the Republican nominee.

Donald Trump abruptly postponed plans to announce his vice presidential pick after an attack left scores dead in Nice, France, a decision that raised questions about Trump’s selection process.

“During the pause as we were trying to get all of this together, we were approached by a number of members. who asked if they could have a period of time who asked if they could work out their differences”.

Republican delegate Paul Curtman, who is a Missouri lawmaker, said Pence could “help bring some legitimate conservative credentials” to Trump’s campaign.

Earlier Thursday, talks between top party officials and recalcitrant conservatives broke down, increasing the odds of nationally televised clashes during next week’s sessions on other GOP rules that leaders have hoped to avoid. If principled, center-right Americans want a party that represents their views and candidates possessing character they will either have to remake the GOP entirely or start over. “It should not be taken away by the RNC, by any party or by the state”.

“That is a God-given right”, Unruh said.
