RNC leaders: Now is not the time to change convention rules
“The record-breaking level of grassroots support we’ve gotten this cycle is powering our ability to build a robust field organization in every battleground state”, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement on Wednesday. The RNC can recommend rules changes, but none take effect unless theyre approved by the 2,472 convention delegates. “Any rules discussion at all gives credence to Trump’s claims and undercuts the “RNC is just an administrator” talking points”. Still, Rule 40b isn’t final – the Convention Rules Committee will meet the week before the convention to finalize changes to the rules. It says that to be among those nominated, candidates must submit certificates showing support by a majority of delegates from at least eight states. Ted Cruz, has aggressively recruited delegates from several states who would vote for Cruz if Trump falls short on the convention’s first ballot of the 1,237 needed to capture the nomination.

Billionaire showman Donald Trump has escalated his war of words with the Republican National Committee and once again, acting as if he’s the Godfather, is making the RNC an offer he thinks they can’t refuse: reform the nominating rules so that he if doesn’t get the required number of delegates he gets it because he got the most votes in the primary. Many in the party fear Trump is viewed so unfavorably by a wide swath of Americans that he would not only keep Republicans out of the White House but also damage GOP candidates running for other offices and perhaps even cause irreparable damage to the party. On the Republican side, Trump did especially well in Brighton Beach and Bay Ridge, while Ohio Gov. John Kasich won in Brooklyn Heights, Fort Greene and parts of Park Slope. Others say the protocol could pave the way for convention floor chaos or make it harder for the party to designate a compromise candidate should there be a deadlock.
Cruz’s successful maneuverings have prompted an outcry from Trump, who has sharply jabbed at his rival’s strategy as subverting the will of the voters.
Late Tuesday, Trump’s campaign invited the RNC’s 168 members to a presentation and reception Thursday night.
The fiery and controversial governor claimed on Friday that the Trump and Cruz campaigns had previously reached a “unity deal” to elect delegates to the national convention in proportion to results of the Pine Tree state’s 5 March caucuses. Ted Cruz are likely losers in this November’s general election. Its proponent, Solomon Yue, said that would make the nominating process more transparent. The Sun Sentinel’s Anthony Man and I were in attendance, and we’ve got details here.
Former presidential candidate Ben Carson, the retired neurosurgeon who has endorsed Trump, also addressed the group. You have to want to actually be President of the United States.
House has received hundreds of e-mails, phone calls, and texts since Trump began criticizing the delegate process in Colorado and his contact information was distributed on the Internet.
“I just don’t know if I want to do it yet”, Trump said Thursday as supporters roared with approval.
Later in the interview, Priebus said that serving in his current leadership role as his party faces internal warfare is enjoyable and not causing him to drink in the morning.
