While there were no injuries reported in the natural disaster, the LA Fire Department indicated that a total of four dogs as well as six people had been rescued from vehicles which were trapped in the mudslides.

It could take days for crews to clean up the road, and authorities urged people to avoid the area in the meantime until officials can give the all clear.

Emergency teams were working to dig out head- Thursday, high mounds of mud in the 58 and Interstate 5, that was likewise shut down as numerous cars were trapped in the mud. Recovery will take significantly longer for the hardest hit areas, including Quartz Hill, Tehachapi, Leona Valley and Lake Hughes, that struck northern Los Angeles County Thursday.

The affected section of Interstate 5, one of the state’s major north-south arteries, carries traffic among steep mountains over a pass rising to an elevation of more than 4,100 feet between the Central Valley and metropolitan Los Angeles.

He said more than that could be damaged, but crews had to bust through blocked roads before they could get an exact count. Thousands of cars and trucks were backed up for miles on the inland route that runs the length of California.

The agency will go house to house Friday morning to check on residents.

“All of these guys have been told they have not been covered”, she said.

More thunderstorms are possible Friday afternoon and evening.
