Goldfields Library Corporation programs and events coordinator Tammy Higgs said Dahl was a storytelling legend.

Most of us grew up reading Roald Dahl books, and spent much of our childhoods being transported into the wonderful worlds he created.

“Children from each year who had the best outfits on received a prize of a Roald Dahl book”.

Have a go and see how much you can remember about Matilda, James, George, Charlie and their fellow characters.

With time, Dahl’s stories have moved beyond their pages and branched off into other media, serving as inspiration for films and plays.

Ffion Marshall, aged eight, was dressed as her favourite character, Matilda.

“I was like, ‘Hey, that’s my BFG”.

Amanda Dunkerley, literacy co-ordinator, at Blackshaw, said: “There has been a big national party to celebrate Roald Dahl”. The special episode commemorating the British writer and poet will be screened on CBBC at 5pm on Thursday 15 September. The secrecy is even more impressive, Dahl says, because her father was “a awful gossip”.
