Rob Gronkowski has back injury in addition to knee injury

A familiar face was back in practice last Wednesday for the New England Patriots as tight end Rob Gronkowski participated after missing Tuesday’s practice for unknown reasons.

One key player on offense is Rob Gronkowski, who faced an injury scare when his knee got roughed up against Denver on November 29.

Gronkowski spent some of his Thursday in a Boston hospital getting treatment on his injured right knee, which included an injection, according to an ESPN source.

Gronkowski was limited Wednesday and was not at the team workout Monday.

Gronkowski, however, had not appeared on the injury list over the final three weeks.

Howe said that Gronkowski “aggravated” his knee in Week 15 and limped out of the stadium, and that he also “tweaked” it in Week 17.

He is expected to play Saturday in the divisional playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Pro Bowl tight end was the team’s leading receiver this season, with 72 catches for 1,176 yards and 11 touchdowns. Gronkowski missed Week 13, but returned in Week 14 to play the Texans. The injury was bad enough to have Brady hobbling away from his press conference after the game, but his status has been lost in the shuffle ever since. Lynch was questionable for last week’s game versus the Vikings and wound up not making the trip to Minnesota.
