The 52-year-old actor, who must still be licking his wounds from his vicious Comedy Central Roast last week, has signed on play a former hockey player-turned small town Canadian mayor named Guy Le Franc.

Looks like the Lizards have made space in their ranks for one more – Deadline reports that How to Be a Latin Lover star Rob Lowe has climbed aboard cop comedy sequel, Super Troopers 2.

Broken Lizard, the comedy team behind the original film, raised over $4.5 million dollars to fund Super Troopers 2 during a crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo past year, surpassing their initial goal of $2 million. In only 30 days, they soared past their $2 million goal by bringing in a total of $4.4 million.

The comedy group responsible for the first film, Broken Lizard, recently posted a picture on Facebook showing that production had officially commenced for the upcoming film. Released back in 2001, Super Troopers went on to become a cult hit and its director and co-star, Jay Chandrasekhar, went on to direct some classic TV comedies like Arrested Development, Community, New Girl and. uh. the Dukes Of Hazzard remake. Such success hasn’t gone unnoticed either, after Fox Searchlight swooped in to pick up North American distribution rights.

There’s no word yet on a possible release date for Super Troopers 2. So far, we’ve seen the returns of Brian Cox’s Captain O’Hagan, Marisa Coughlan’s Ursula, a log cabin in the middle of the woods, and a surprise appearance at a Willie Nelson concert.
