Taxi drivers in the Bosnian capital Sarajevo have been putting posters of Robert De Niro on their vehicles in tribute to the actor ahead of a visit. “This is insane, ‘ ’cause what he’s been saying is really, totally crazy, ridiculous stuff…he’s totally nuts”.

Making the link to the USA presidential race, De Niro said Trump, like Bickle, was where he should not be.

Scheduled to run through August 20, the Sarajevo Film Festival will feature world premieres of the Montenegro/Serbia co-production Igla Ispod Praga (The Black Pin), directed by Ivan Marinovic; and Die Liebhaberin (A Decent Woman) by Lukas Valenta Rinner, co-produced by Austria, South Korea and Argentina.

In the movie – which has been restored digitally for its 40th anniversary – De Niro plays a lonely and depressed former US Marine living on his own in NY.

Robert De Niro has become the latest celebrity to criticise Donald Trump, who he said should not run for president because he was “totally nuts”.

“I mean, one of the things to me was just the irony of.at the end he’s back driving the cab, he’s. celebrated, which is kind of relevant in some way today too”.

De Niro was participating in a question and answer session at the Sarajevo Film Festival on Saturday when the moderator asked him to discuss Travis Bickle.

“I think people now are starting to really push back”, said De Niro.
