Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III was placed on the injured reserved list after breaking a bone in his shoulder, the team announced Monday, ensuring the former Baylor Heisman Trophy victor will miss at least eight games.

Griffin, 26, who signed a two-year, $15-million base contract in March, is expected to miss an “extended period of time”, according to a statement released by the team on Monday. It said no surgery is required at this time and that Griffin will be evaluated again in 3-4 weeks.
Under the new injured reserve rules for the 2016 season, each team can designate one player to return.
To be fair to RGIII, I don’t think he meant to make himself a battering ram on that play.

Griffin admitted to being in a lot of pain after the game, and Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer indicated doubt about his status going forward.
Josh McCown threw some warmup passes but Griffin stayed in despite the lopsided score. Griffin is at his best as a fearless scrambler, but as we have seen repeatedly, that style and his slight body leave him extremely vulnerable to big, injury-causing hits. Griffin will miss at least eight weeks. I think he broke out and was trying to scramble and get out of bounds and I think Gary (Barnidge) was blocking and defending, and the defender was really out of bounds and he was trying to get there and at the last second they pushed him back. He returned for the Browns’ final three offensive plays, but Jackson did not take a chance and called three runs. McCown, who coincidentally sustained a concussion on the opening drive in his debut with Cleveland last season, went 1-7 in eight starts but passed for 457 yards in a win over the Ravens. “He is more than capable”, Jackson said.
“I felt very confident”, Wentz said. “His veteran presence has been an asset to our team throughout our process of preparing for the season”. McCown set a single-game franchise record for passing yards in the regular season. Eagles cornerback Jalen Mills drove into Browns tight end Gary Barnidge, then bounced off Barnidge and wound up at the sideline right where Griffin was heading out of bounds. He completed 12 of 26 passes for 190 yards and added 37 rushing yards against the Eagles.

Now, reports out of Cleveland have suggested that the injury is serious and could force him out of the Week 2 matchup against the Ravens.
