Robert Griffin III used summer break to prepare for starting QB battle

Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon displayed a willingness to change when he met with team officials after being reinstated from a long suspension by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Bryant was suspended for two games last season and was suspended without pay for this season’s first four games for violating the National Football League policy on performance-enhancing substances. While the 25-year-old has been permitted to join his teammates for the ongoing training camp, he would need to serve his four-game suspension before returning to the field in Week 5 of the season. “But I still want to get out here with our players because all of them have to earn a starting spot as we move forward”.

“I think coach is going to come out and see what he needs to see and make that decision”, Griffin said before practice.

Cleveland Browns coach Hue Jackson said he will name his starting quarterback for this season before the team’s first exhibition game next month.

Gordon will be out at least a couple of weeks with an injured quadriceps – he worked on the side with trainers, then studied the script of plays during team drills – but he was a popular topic of conversation nonetheless. I think he knows that. Our roster is obviously younger than some of the other teams in our division as we brought in a lot of young guys, but as we’ve told them and we will tell them in a team meeting this afternoon, this isn’t about taking a year off or looking up in two or three years. “The more fun you have, the easier it is to play freely and go out and make plays”.

“I have a great support staff here, more than I’ve ever felt before”, Gordon said. I’m just trying to get everybody to see that that’s not who I am and that I made a mistake in posting the picture.

“We shared those with him, and I truly believe that he wants to make it right, as well”, Jackson said.

“No question, I know he’ll be ready”, Jackson said of Haden being active for the season opener in September. If you talk to him, you’re going to love him.

“I have to be very clear from where I stand with the players, and the coaches for that matter”.

“I was really excited”, Gordon said Thursday.

Gordon hasn’t played since the 15th game of 2014. When he first came back in the locker room, as soon as I saw him, I ran up to him, gave him a hug and was like, ‘J.G., I’m so happy for you to be back.’ He was like, ‘Bro, you don’t understand. It is just kind of who we are and how we go about it. I thought the quarterbacks handled all of the different things that I kind of threw at them the first installation, pretty good.

The star cornerback is uncertain when he might fully practice during training camp after being injured early last season. “It’s going to be an opportunity for us to really teach our team”. “We believe he is, but we’ll hold him accountable, and he’ll have to hold himself accountable”.

And once that’s in order, Griffin said there’s one thing left to do. He looks out for me.
