Australia’s highest-ranked UFC fighter will next take on Derek Brunson.

Riding a five-fight winning streak, Brunson (16-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) is now slated to fight Australian middleweight Robert Whittaker (16-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 101, UFC officials recently announced. On an equally impressive hot streak is Sydney’s Whittaker, whose own five-fight win streak includes victories over Hall, Brad Tavares and Rafael Natal.
Brunson (16-3) wrecked Uriah Hall with a left hook and recorded the 1st round TKO in last week’s UFC Hidalgo co-main event.
While it was anticipated Whittaker may be matched against MMA legend Anderson Silva in Melbourne, the UFC on Thursday announced his opponent as powerful USA grappler Derek Brunson.
UFC Fight Night 101 is headlined by a five-round middleweight clash between Luke Rockhold and Ronaldo Souza.

Despite his wrestling credentials, Brunson has won his last four fights by first-round knockout. The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.
