RoboHon: Sharp debuts a tiny cute robot that doubles as a smartphone

The 4G-capable Robohon, designed by illustrious inventor Tomotaka Takahashi, stands eight inches tall and has a 2-inch screen on its back. It walks, talks, dances, and connects to Wi-Fi and LTE. Well, the dream has been materialised by Japanese company Sharp.

Welcome your new master: RoBoHon is a little robot that wants to rule your life, because he’s basically the yappiest smartphone around, and one with limbs too. Japanese electronics manufacturer Sharp has showcased a prototype robot that doubles as a smartphone at the Ceatec electronics show in Makuhari Messe, Japan. For instance, the anthropomorphic phone can act as a talking alarm clock, takes notes like a secretary, or serve as a reminder when it comes to scheduled activities.

“But we feel uncomfortable to talk through that square black box”. Based on the video, it seems like the RoboHon will be able to speak its users, informing them of incoming messages and calls, allowing them to speak back to it to translate voice to text.

Sharp says it’ll release RoboHon in the first half of next year. Another interesting characteristic is that the device also has a projector, for displaying videos and images, like in a miniature movie theater.

However, on the camera feature grounds, the robot phone is side to be offering an innovative camera and projector built into its face. It also includes a built-in camera with facial recognition. Most likely not, as that would be really advanced manmade brainpower.
