Robot Could Help Stores Track Item Inventory

Meet Tally from Simbe Robotics, created to move around retail locations, keeping track of low- and out-of-stock items. Thankfully, technology has made life a whole lot easier in recent times, and Simbe Robotics has stepped forward with their Tally autonomous robot. Tally can check stock at a Walgreens-sized strore in about an hour, according to Simbe officials, whereas human employees would take about 25 hours to perform the same tasks.

With the robot in operation, a stockboy will no longer have to make a visual inspection by walking down the aisles.

Tally will obviously be able to keep to normal business hours, and sports a charging dock that is reminiscent of that of a Roomba’s, allowing itself to juice up should it run low on battery power in mid-shift.

The data captured by the robot is sent to the cloud for processing and analysis. “If a product is unavailable at the time the shopper wants to buy it, the retailer has missed an opportunity and disappointed their customer”, Brad Bogolea, CEO and co-founder of Simbe Robotics, in the announcement.

The 38-inch tall Tally features a suite of sensors that let it operate reliably and safely in retail environments while capturing information on the state of merchandise in the store.

“Navigating a space with moving objects is something we can do now”, he added. “And it’s pretty to think that this just frees up workers but to a large extent, it frees up workers to be unemployed”.

Abundance and variety are great qualities in a store-unless you’re looking for something specific. “I was going to say that kids will really like it, but they’ll probably just think that’s the way it’s always been”.
